Absences / Lates / Early Pick-Ups
Please report all lates, absences and early pick-ups.
When students are going to miss classes due to illness, medical appointments or family emergencies, parents / guardians must call the office at the number above. Leave a message including your child’s first and last name, grade, classroom teacher and the reason for the absence / late. If we have not received a call regarding your child’s absence, we will attempt to contact you to verify the absence. We will phone the work and home number of the number one contact person which you have listed. Your attendance phone call is very important. Help us by keeping us informed of any changes to your contact information.
Late students are to enter through the front doors to report to the main office, collect a ‘Welcome’ slip and then proceed to their classroom.
If you are going to be late picking up your child, please call the office before 3:30 PM and we will ensure your child is waiting for you in the office.
We strongly encourage all students to arrive on time every day. Just five minutes lateness every day is the equivalent of missing three days of instruction averaged over a school year. Missed instruction impacts achievement. Regular school attendance and punctuality is required of all students.
Extended Absences
We recognize that enrichment activities or travel present unique learning opportunities for students. The school does not program for students while away and does not provide homework or assignments during the absence. Parents can, however, visit the homeroom teacher's blog (found on our 'Classes' page) to check on what is happening during the absence and can utilize LearnAlberta's site to determine what is being taught. It is the parent’s responsibility to inform the teacher and school office during their child(ren) extended absences.
- Please fill out an Extended Absence Form and return to either the office or teacher.
Attendance Expectations at the CBE
Regular and punctual attendance is foundational to student learning, academic achievement and long-term success. The CBE Administrative Regulation 6020 - Attendance of Students applies to all students, and outlines the responsibilities for students, parents and school staff.
