Registration at Calgary Board of Education (CBE) schools is not determined on a first come, first served basis. Registration and admission to schools in CBE is governed by the Education Act and Administrative Regulation 6090 | Child and Student Registration and Admission.
Kindergarten Placements
When possible, Kindergarten students are placed into AM and PM classes based on the preference indicated by parents at the time of registration. (Please note, indicating an AM or PM preference does not guarantee that preference.)
Placements in the AM or PM class will be completed via a draw in May, prior to the Kindergarten Orientation Session. A Kindergarten Handbook will also be emailed to new Kindergarten parents in a Kindergarten Information Message prior to the Orientation Session. (Please check our calendar on the website for the date of the May Orientation Session.)
Kindergarten Homeroom teachers will not assigned to particular students until after the first week of school to ensure all classes are balanced for identified learning needs and visible aptitudes. Once the homeroom teacher is assigned, this teacher will serve as the primary contact for communication and assessment.
Regular Kindergarten programming occurs during the regular instructional hours of school Mondays – Thursdays from 9:11 AM – 12:04 PM or 12:51 PM – 3:44 PM. On Fridays, for early dismissal days, the AM or PM Kindergarten class will only come to school on select assigned days between 9:11 - 1:14 (regardless of AM or PM class placement).
