CULTURAL MUSIC APPRECIATION

On days that have an important cultural celebration that we will be recognizing, we will be playing a piece of music for students to listen to. We hope that this is just one more day to help students learn more about each other and the things that contribute to the cultural identify of their peers.

TOYS / STUFFED ANIMALS / TRADING CARDS / MAKE UP

Students are asked to keep toys, collectibles, stuffed animals, Pokémon and other trading cards, make-up, etc. at home. These items distract from learning and are creating issues with items being lost or traded, which is taking away from teaching time and learning.

Thanks for your help!

SHARING OF VALENTINES

This year, Valentine’s Day is on Friday, February 14 but there is no school that day.  Sometime between February 10 to 12 classes at Northern Lights School will recognize and approach Valentine’s Day discussions as opportunities for students learn more about how their actions of kindness, gratitude, friendship and small, thoughtful gestures can positively impact the world around them.

Some classes may choose to facilitate an optional exchange of Valentine’s cards/notes from home and these teachers will send a list of first names home. Please see the teacher’s individual blogs for details about what they may be doing.

If you child would like to bring a message of kindness to other students before February 12, we ask that you respect the following expectations:

  • Each child in the class should receive a message if your child would like to send something.  (There is no expectation that your child will send a message, but we request that if your child does bring a note or Valentine that no student in their class is left out.)
  • What is written is kind

For safety reasons, no candy, chocolate or other food items can be handed out. (If your child brings any candy, chocolate or food items, they will be sent back home with them.) Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding.
