EARLY PICK UPS DISRUPT TEACHING AND LEARNING

We ask families to leave students in school for the full day (until 3:44 Monday to Thursday, and 1:14 Friday) whenever possible. Picking up early disrupts the classrooms that have to be called, takes teachers away from what they are doing, and impacts the learning of your child and other children in the class.  At the current time, we have approximately 20 people per day picking up their child/children prior to the bell. Thank you for your help with this matter.

KINDNESS TO OUR STAFF

Be Kind, Kindness, Rock, Random Acts of Kindness

We would like to thank our families that are showing kindness and compassion when interacting with / calling / emailing our teachers or staff. It is so very appreciated when families recognize that teachers and support staff are doing their very best in increasingly complex jobs. Each person in our building works in the school because they love children and they believe in public education. It matters to them that children are receiving the best education possible and that they have parent support when issues arise.

Please know that when conflicts with children arise, our staff actively work through the issues to ensure a safe and caring environment.  We appreciate when parents work as our partners to help our learners become caring, kind, and respectful citizens. When families help their children take responsibility for their part in conflicts, and follow through with additional dialogue and follow-up at home when unexpected behaviours occur, children recognize that their actions matter and that the school and home are part of a team working together as partners.

Please note that disrespectful or abusive behaviour towards any of our teachers or school staff is not acceptable and will not be permitted. Positive relationships are critical to supporting student learning and achievement. With that, we expect all stakeholders in our school community to show respect and understanding as we work together in the best interests of all children.

HUGGING & GOING

We have a few requests to help the Hug & Go from getting backed up onto the street in both directions.

  • Arrive earlier when possible.  We have supervision from 8:56 am on. It does not work when everyone arrives at 9:09 and we are having over 30 to 45 students arriving late and after the second bell at 9:11.
  • Pull in, say goodbye, have your child jump out, and then go.  With so many families dropping off, we need everyone’s cooperation with this.
  • Please don’t stop in the loop and then wait until the bell with your child in the car. 90-seconds is the maximum amount of time you should be in the loop. (This includes stopping in the back side / west end of the loop.)
  • Have your child organized before leaving home so they can easily jump out with all of their stuff. Have children dressed for the weather with coats, boots, hats and mittens/gloves.  When dressed properly, they are comfortable playing / visiting with friends or peers outside before school begins.
  • Fully pull your vehicle into a spot.  Do not pull part way in or leave your car parked diagonally as it blocks entering or exiting traffic and stops the flow.
  • Do NOT let children out of the vehicle before pulling into a spot when in the middle.  This is EXTREMLY dangerous.
  • Do not allow children to walk through the Hug & Go or parking lots.  Cars often do not see children and we do not want anyone getting hurt.

We appreciate everyone's help with this as we strive to have all children safely at school prior to the start of the school day and have all of our families off to work or wherever they need to be without being late.
