STAFF UPDATES
This year, we have several staffing updates to provide, and there will be more to come as we continue to staff for the 2024-2025 school year.
From our permanent teaching staff, Mrs.Sato will be retiring; Mrs. Parkhurst and Miss Gadbois will be moving to other CBE schools; Mr. Kurtz and Mrs. Ishii will be taking on new adventures outside of the CBE; and Mrs. Joubert and Mrs. Barnden will continue to be off on maternity leave. We wish them the best!
Ms. Warkentin, Ms. Vashi, Ms. Mac, Mrs. Dang, Ms. Mundy and Mr. Coco had all stepped into temporary teaching positions this year to cover for teachers that have been away and Mrs. Sharma and Ms. Sera were assisting with additional literacy and numeracy groups this spring. We will provide updates about them next week.
STAFF WELCOMES
To our teaching staff, we will be welcoming Ms. Rhea Qi (pronounced 'Chi') from Midnapore School, Ms. Vanessa Blyth from Simons Valley School, Ms. Jessica Buzanko from Annie Foot School, Ms. Cathy Li and Ms. Abbie Mazurak from Taradale School, and Mrs. Candice Schumacher from Vista Heights.
To our lunch supervision staff, we will be welcoming Amy Hainsworth.
Additional teaching staff will be hired between now and the beginning of the school year. Until all of our staff is hired, we will not be confirming what grades teachers will be teaching. We will send out an email to all families prior to the first day of school next year (August 29) with information about who your child’s teacher is so please watch for an update on August 27.
FREEZIES FOR PLAY DAY THIS THURSDAY (or on Wednesday for Kindergarten since they don’t have school on Thursday)
On Play Day, we will be providing a Mr. Freeze Freezie to students. If you do NOT want your child to have a Freezie, please email your child’s homeroom teacher BEFORE the day itself and send a snack for them to have instead. If your child is allowed to eat a Freezie, no action is required on your part.
Mr. Freeze Freezie ingredients include:
Water, glucose-fructose/sugar, citric acid, simulated flavours, sodium carboxymenthyl cellulose (stabilizer), sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate (to maintain freshness), stevia extract, colour
SCHOOL HOURS FOR 2024-25
Our school hours for Kindergarten through Grade 5 will remain the same next year, with the first day of school being Thursday, August 29. On August 27, teachers will send out welcome messages to families with children in their homeroom class. This email will include reminders for the first day of school and information about where their students should meet them on the school grounds on August 29.
How we will be dividing for lunch will be changing. Grades 1, 4 and half of the Grade 3 classes will be having their break between 11:30 – 12:10. Grades 2, 5, and the other half of the Grade 3 classes will be having their break between 12:15 – 12:55. (If your child is in Grade 3 next year, we will email you to let you know which lunch shift your child is in within the Welcome Back emails sent out at the end of August.)
TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION COMMITMENT
All schools in the CBE have renewed their Truth and Reconciliation Commitments for the upcoming school year. Please click HERE for more information.
FOOD SHARING
Just a reminder that food sharing between students is not permitted. This includes students sharing snacks or food at recess and lunch, as well as snacks, treats or food gifts that may have been sent by parents in previous years for end of year celebrations.
With the vast range of allergies in our school, which include things such as wheat, milk, dairy, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts (such as almonds, etc.), legumes, berries and other fruits, items in the mustard family (such as broccoli and kale), food dyes, chocolate, honey, etc., we ask that families DO NOT bring or send any food to be shared with the class.
We truly appreciate your support and cooperation as we strive to ensure all students are kept safe from accidental allergic reactions. If you have any additional questions about this, please contact Mrs. Brinson (mlbrinson@cbe.ab.ca).
