STORY TELLING / MEDICINE WHEEL SCHOOL-WIDE RESIDENCY

chantal

We are pleased to welcome Knowledge Keeper, Chantal Chagnon, to Northern Lights School for a school-wide residency with all students on March 5, 6, 10, 11, and 12. This opportunity has been funded by the NLS Parent Fundraising Society, so we pass on a huge thank you for their generosity!

Chantal Chagnon is a Cree/Métis Multidisciplinary Artist, Educator, Knowledge Keeper and Activist with roots in Muskeg Lake Cree Nation, Saskatchewan. Cultural Wisdom and Traditional Ceremony are always present in her Teaching Artistry, as she carries her Ancestral Knowledge forward in a good way. Offering Storytelling, Songs, Drumming, Cultural Teachings, Traditional Indigenous Craftsmanship, Art Creation and collaboration has allowed Chantal to share throughout Canada and the World.

Each class will get a chance to meet with and learn from Chantal individually. Chantal will focus on Storytelling and Medicine Wheel teachings based on her lived experiences and wisdom that she will share with us. Working alongside our teachers, Chantal will also provide insight and guidance on continuing to encourage Land-Based Learning in our building.

To honour our school’s TRC commitment this year, Northern Lights School has made the following commitment to action for the 2025-2026 school year: 62.3: Utilize Indigenous knowledges, languages, and teaching methods in classrooms (focus on applying learning that includes inviting Indigenous community members to share knowledge with students).

If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher for more information.
