October 10 - Kernels Popcorn Day (orders due at healthyhunger.ca by Saturday, October 5)
October 14 - No School - Thanksgiving
October 16 – School Council and Parent Fundraising Society Annual General Meeting. (There will be the elections of the executive, reviewing the Parent Fundraising Society finances, discussing plans for this coming year and updating the bylaws.)

HALLOWEEN AT NORTHERN LIGHTS SCHOOL
We have already had lots of inquiries about Halloween, treats, and costumes so thought we would send out some information to clarify the day. Classes will be fully engaged in regular learning activities on Thursday, October 31.
Students MAY:
- wear their regular clothes
- wear orange and black
- wear a simple costume that does not interfere with learning
Students MAY NOT:
- wear full face costume masks
- bring costume accessories (ie. weapons)
- wear costumes they are not comfortable in for the day during all learning activities
- wear costumes that interfere with learning time
- spend instructional time putting on costumes or makeup
- bring candy, treats or other items to share with their peers or class
BIRTHDAYS AND BIRTHDAY PARTY INVITATIONS
As mentioned earlier in the school year, we ask that families do not send cakes, cupcakes, cookies, or other treats and items for their children’s birthdays. Teachers will not be able to hand out these items and will have to send them back home. We thank you for respecting this expectation as we strive to keep all of our students safe from accidental or unknown allergic reactions. We do give a pencil out to each child to recognized their birthday and make an announcement over the PD to honour their special day.
Class time and instructional time cannot be used to hand out invitations to birthday parties. Parents are welcome to connect with other parents or daycare providers at drop off or pick up, or have their children hand out invitations outside either before or after school. We thank you for your cooperation.
APPLE FUNDRAISER WITH DAVIDSON’S ORCHARD
Have you ordered your apples? You only have six more days to do so! (The order deadline is this coming Wednesday, October 9 and our tentative delivery date is October 25, 2024.) They are fresh, right from the orchard and are worth the cost!!! Money raised from their sales will be used to purchase the next items off the students’ wish list for outdoor games.
There are three different varieties of apples: Honeycrisp - $42 per box, Okanagan Blend - $35 per box and Gala - $32 per box. All boxes are 15 pounds.
