POCKET SIZED OR HAND-HELD SNACKS
During the school day, students have an opportunity to eat a SMALL hand or pocket-sized snack. This snack is not a meal and is in addition to their lunch meal. Please help your child choose a snack that fits in their hand or is in a container that can go back in their pocket when done eating. Snacks should be separate from lunch and should not require a table to eat as students often eat snack at outside, at recess or while doing a work job.
Because we dismiss at 1:05 pm each Friday, students do not have lunch break at school but will have opportunities to eat two small hand or pocket-sized snacks as the day is still quite long. We ask that parents send one or two small snacks on Fridays even through no full lunch is required. Please see the Canada Food Guide for different brain and body fueling ideas: https://food-guide.canada.ca/en/?wbdisable=true. Teachers are not permitted to provide snacks to students. Thank you for your understanding.
SAVE THE DATE FOR OUR ‘WELCOME TO THE NEW YEAR’ OPEN HOUSE
On the evening of Thursday, September 26 from 4:30 - 7:00, families will have an opportunity to drop in for a few minutes during our ‘Welcome to the New Year’ Open House.
Although we will have a 2 ½ hour window of time available for families to come in, only 15-minutes or so per child is needed. (There will not be a booking system for this evening, and you do not need to sign up for a specific time to come.)
This drop in evening will give you a chance to:
- take a walk through the school to see our various learning spaces and the fantastic documentation panels that classes have created outside of the classrooms
- see the inside of your child's classroom
- say hello to your child's homeroom teacher
- see a few things that your child will share about classroom routines, structures and activities
- meet / visit with other families outside on the playground / courtyard area.
Our School Council has arranged for many outside games to be located outside that families can play during this evening event such as Bocce Ball, Giant Connect Four, Corn Hole / Bean Bag Toss, X O Toss Across, Spikeball, and Giant Jenga. They have also arranged for several Food Trucks to be in the Hug & Go during the evening if families choose to purchase food.
**Please note, this Open House evening is not intended as a time for teachers to sit down to discuss how each child is doing, as school will only been in school for a few weeks and teachers are still getting to know their students**
If you have not done so already, please return the paper copy of the Parent or Guardian Questionnaire we sent home at the start of the year This document is a key piece in providing your child’s teacher with a lot of very important information about your child that they will need to build on a successful year.
FIELD TRIPS WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE / COMMUNITY WALKS
The CBE values the educational benefit of field trips and community walks. Field trips close to our school can complement classroom learning by giving students opportunities to explore the community around their school. As parents/guardians, you do not fill out consent forms for your child to go on a class trip that is walking distance from the school, e.g. to a local park. Appropriate walking distance may vary, depending on the age of the students.
Teachers will provide at least 48-hours notice when planning a trip to a local site. You will be notified about these trips via their Blogger Agenda posts (These can be found at https://school.cbe.ab.ca/school/northernlights/teaching-learning/classes-departments/pages/default.aspx.
