Arriving at School Dressed for the Cold Weather and Walking Like a Penguin
Students should be prepared for the cold weather by wearing warm boots, a winter jacket, snow pants, gloves or mittens, and a warm hat or hood. We are outside unless it is -20 and, even when it is -20, may be outside for short periods of time. We ask that students come to school already wearing their winter wear so they are comfortable being outside before the bell rings in the morning and during the recess periods. (If it is not -20 in the mornings, students will be outside prior to the bell.)
We also ask for everyone's cooperation when using the Hug & Go on cold days. Students cannot sit in the vehicle in the Hug & Go waiting for the morning bell and need to get out of the vehicle quickly to ensure the traffic flows. It is also helpful for everyone to remember to be patient as the loop does get busy on cold days. Thanks in advance for your help!
Our school field and grassy areas are currently very slippery sheets of ice. Students need to avoid crossing the icy areas when possible and try to stay on the grassy sections not covered in ice. If they cannot, should remember to walk slowly (like a penguin) to help them cross the areas safely rather than running. We cannot block off or salt all of the icy areas so truly need everyones help to ensure they are being as safe as possible.
