HUGGING & GOING

As the weather gets colder, we have a few requests to help the Hug & Go from getting backed up onto the street in both directions.

  • Arrive earlier when possible.  We have supervision from 8:50 am on. It does not work when everyone arrives at 9:00 and we are having over 30 to 45 students arriving late and after the second bell.
  • Have children dressed for the weather with coats, boots, hats and mittens/gloves.  When dressed properly, they are comfortable playing / visiting with friends or peers outside before school begins.
  • Pull in, say goodbye, have your child jump out, and then go.  With so many families dropping off, we need everyone’s cooperation with this.
  • Please don’t stop in the loop and then wait until the bell with your child in the car. 90-seconds is the maximum amount of time you should be in the loop. (This includes stopping in the back part of the loop.)
  • Have your child organized before leaving home so they can easily jump out with all of their stuff.
  • Fully pull your vehicle into a spot.  Do not pull part way in or leave your car parked diagonally as it blocks entering or exiting traffic and stops the flow.
  • Do NOT let children out of the vehicle before pulling into a spot.  This is EXTREMLY dangerous.
  • Do not allow children to walk through the parking lots.  Cars often do not see children and we do not want anyone getting hurt.

We appreciate everyone's help with this as we strive to have all of our children safely at school prior to the start of the school day and have all of our families off to work or where ever they need to be without being late.

OUR NLS WISH TREES

In our school, we will be setting up two ‘Wish’ trees.  After reading the book, “The Wish Tree” by Kyo Maclear, students will engage in discussions about how generosity can help bring joy to others. They will then create a paper wish for the tree that reflects what they hope for in the world, beyond their own wants. Wishes will be written for their families, others in the school, those in the Coventry Hills, Harvest Hills and Carrington communities, individuals in Calgary, Alberta, Canada or around the world. The wishes will hang on the tree for others to read when they have a moment.  Classes will also be taking some time to read the wishes and discuss how their own actions or positive intentions can help change the world for the better.

CARDS FOR SENIORS

For the fourth year in a row, our students will be creating cards for the seniors over at Newport Harbour Long-Term Care and Assisted Living facility.  Classes will be reading the book, “Share Some Kindness, Bring Some Light” by Apryl Stott for inspiration on how they can spread some kindness. The cards will contain messages / words and pictures of hope, love and joy. They will created next week and will be delivered on Friday, December 15. We hope they will bring a moment of happiness to the residents.
