THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS AND OUR PARENT FUNDRAISING SOCIETY

Our Alien In-Line skating lessons were a huge success!  Thank you to all of the volunteers that came out to help students put on and take off their equipment! It was much appreciated. Thank you again to the Parent Fundraising Society and our School Council for funding the lessons and making them free for families. Many families asked us to pass on a thank you!

REMEMBRANCE DAY

This year, we will be holding our Remembrance Day Ceremonies with our students in the school gym. Due to the increase in our student population this year, we are holding two assemblies to stay under the gym’s capacity.

This year, the grade three students and our grade four choir will be helping with the presentation. As this is the first in person assembly most of our students have ever attended, teachers will be reviewing general behaviour expectations with their classes. Remembrance Day Ceremonies are very serious and solemn events; students will be reminded that clapping after presentations is not appropriate, but they can show appreciation for those presenting by putting their hand over their heart.

Poppy stickers will be distributed to students on November 8 and we do have a donation jar in the office for families that wish to make a donation to the Royal Canadian Legion’s Poppy Trust Fund. This fund helps provide financial assistance and support to Veterans, including Canadian Armed Forces and RCMP, and their families who are in need. Poppy Funds provide Veterans grants for food, heating costs, clothing, prescription medications, essential home repairs, and emergency shelter or assistance, and much more.

Students will be learning about what peace means and what it can look like; how they can show gratitude and kindness in their daily lives; and how they can positively contribute to our safe, caring and welcoming school community each and every day.

PURDYS

Looking for a gift idea for someone you love? We can help with that! This November, we have teamed up with Purdys Chocolatier to raise money to help with the Family Dance and Family BBQ our Parent Fundraising Society and School Council hope to host in the spring.

Chocolate orders must be placed online by November 29, 2023 by following these steps:

  • Go to https://fundraising.purdys.com/1584387-108276
  • Enter your email address and click on ‘Join a Campaign’
  • Click on ‘Shop Online’ (in the dark purple banner near the top of the page)
  • Click on ‘Use Marketplace’ to see pictures of order options, or click on ‘Use Online Order Form’ to see a list.
  • Add items to your order.
  • Click on ‘Proceed to Checkout’
  • Follow the prompts to pay for your order online

Orders arrive at the Northern Lights School on December 18, 2023 and will be sent home with your child. (There is no spot on the online order form to put down a child's name so, when possible, please submit the order under a parent name that is attached to a student in our school so we can search it.)

***If you do not want your order sent home with your child, please email your child’s homeroom teacher so they can make alternative arrangements with you.***
