HALLOWEEN AT NORTHERN LIGHTS SCHOOL

We have already received many questions about Halloween, costumes, and treats, so we wanted to provide some information to help clarify our expectations for the day. Classes will be fully engaged in regular learning activities on Friday, October 30.

Students may:

  • Wear their regular clothing.
  • Wear orange and black.
  • Wear a simple costume that is comfortable and does not interfere with learning.

Students may not:

  • Wear full-face masks.
  • Bring costume accessories, including toy weapons or props.
  • Wear costumes that they are not comfortable wearing throughout the school day.
  • Wear costumes that interfere with learning activities or participation.
  • Spend instructional time putting on costumes, changing, or applying makeup.
  • Bring candy, treats, or other items to share with classmates. (Any candy or treats sent to school will have to be sent back home.)

Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe, inclusive, and learning-focused environment while allowing students to enjoy the spirit of Halloween.

Secret Path Week

October 17-22 is Secret Path Week, a time to learn about and reflect on the experiences of Indigenous children and families. During the week, schools across Canada honor the memory of Chanie Wenjack, a young Anishinaabe boy, and recognize the lasting impacts of residential schools.

At NLS, students will take part in the Walk for Wenjack during their Physical Education classes on October 20, 21, and 22. This activity provides an opportunity for students to learn, reflect, and show respect in an age-appropriate way.

Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather, as we will be walking outdoors. Teachers will share additional information about the learning activities on their classroom blogs.
