LUNCHROOM SUPERVISION SERVICES
All students in Grades 1-5 who remain at school during the lunch break have now been registered for Lunch Supervision. The monthly fee has been added to your MyCBE Parent Account.
If your child stays at school during the lunch period, this fee is required and is not optional. The only exception is for students whose families have made alternate supervision arrangements outside of school and have assumed responsibility for their child's care for the entire 40-minute lunch break.
Lunch supervision provides students with adult supervision while they eat and participate in lunchtime activities. Fees collected help schools hire and maintain lunchroom supervisors. Income tax receipts are issued for lunch supervision fees and may be claimed as childcare expenses for income tax purposes.
Lunch Supervision Schedule
- Grades 3 and 5: Monday to Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 12:10 p.m.
- Grades 1, 2, and 4: Monday to Thursday, 12:15 p.m. to 12:55 p.m.
During the Lunch Break
Students have:
- 20-minutes for outdoor play
- 20-minutes to eat
If a student requires additional time to finish their lunch, accommodations are made and this extra time is provided.
Supporting Healthy Eating
If you notice that your child is regularly bringing home uneaten food or tells you they are not eating lunch, please contact your child's teacher. The teacher can communicate with the lunch supervisor so that we can work together to support your child during the lunch period.
Thank you for your cooperation and support in helping us provide a safe and well-supervised lunch environment for our students.
Reminders
- Students are required to bring their own spoons, forks, and other utensils needed for their snacks and lunch.
- We follow a "Pack In, Pack Out" approach. Students are expected to take home all lunch garbage and uneaten food. Exceptions will be made for items such as opened yogurt, applesauce, or other foods that could create a mess if returned home.
- If your child will be leaving school during the lunch break, please notify the school and ensure appropriate supervision arrangements are in place. For student safety, we must know whether students are remaining at school under Lunch Supervision or are in the care of a parent/guardian or designated caregiver during the lunch period.

HALLOWEEN AT NORTHERN LIGHTS SCHOOL
We have already received many questions about Halloween, costumes, and treats, so we wanted to provide some information to help clarify our expectations for the day. Classes will be fully engaged in regular learning activities on Friday, October 30.
Students may:
- Wear their regular clothing.
- Wear orange and black.
- Wear a simple costume that is comfortable and does not interfere with learning.
Students may not:
- Wear full-face masks.
- Bring costume accessories, including toy weapons or props.
- Wear costumes that they are not comfortable wearing throughout the school day.
- Wear costumes that interfere with learning activities or participation.
- Spend instructional time putting on costumes, changing, or applying makeup.
- Bring candy, treats, or other items to share with classmates. (Any candy or treats sent to school will have to be sent back home.)
Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe, inclusive, and learning-focused environment while allowing students to enjoy the spirit of Halloween.
