October 19 – NO SCHOOL for students. (Non-Instruction Day)

MRS. DOCHERTY AS OUR ACTING PRINCIPAL

Mrs. Brinson will be away from the school for the next several weeks. During her absence, our Assistant Principal, Mrs. Docherty, will serve as Acting Principal. Mrs. Docherty will be fully supported in leading the school with the help of Ms. Laura Devitt, retired CBE principal, who will serve as the Acting Assistant Principal during this time.

Please know that the work of our school will continue as usual, and any questions, concerns, or needs that arise will be addressed promptly and thoughtfully by Mrs. Docherty and Ms. Devitt. Our staff remains committed to supporting students and families, and there will be no interruption to the care and attention our school community will receive in Mrs. Brinson’s absence.

Thank you for your ongoing support, partnership, and understanding. I look forward to reconnecting with everyone upon my return.

VIDEO SURVEILLANCE TECHNOLOGY

Our school has a video surveillance system to help maintain a safe and secure environment at the school for students, staff and the public, and to help address vandalism and criminal activity on school property.

The video surveillance system is installed and reviewed in accordance with Administrative Regulation 1066. Personal information is collected under the authority of the Education Act and the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA), specifically section 10(1) and the Access to Information Act (ATIA) .

This technology can be placed in areas such as the school parking lot, building entrances and exits, stairwells and hallways. This information is recorded and collected to help maintain a safe and secure environment in the school and on school property. The users of this information are the principal or designate and law enforcement personnel in the case of reported incidents that would require an investigation. Only authorized persons will review video surveillance information.

Inquiries concerning the video surveillance system, or the collection and use of recorded information may be made by contacting Mrs. Brinson at mlbrinson@cbe.ab.ca.

BIRTHDAYS AND BIRTHDAY PARTY INVITATIONS

We kindly ask that families do not send cakes, cupcakes, cookies, candy, treats, or other birthday items to school. Teachers are not able to distribute these items and will need to send them home. We appreciate your understanding as we work to keep all students safe and reduce the risk of accidental exposure to allergens.

We recognize that birthdays are very special occasions. To help celebrate, each child at NLS receives a birthday pencil, and their birthday is acknowledged with a school-wide announcement.

We also ask that families do not ask teachers to distribute birthday party invitations. Class time and instructional time cannot be used for handing out invitations. Families are welcome to connect with other parents or caregivers outside of school hours, or students may distribute invitations either before or after school.

Thank you for your cooperation and support in helping us maintain a safe, inclusive, and learning-focused environment for all students.
