EXTRA CLOTHING FOR BACKPACKS
Please send extra clothes and socks in your child’s backpack that can stay in there in case they need them. This is not only for bathroom accidents, but also for when pants get wet and muddy as we move into the fall and winter months.
We do not have extra clothes at the school, so having items already at school for your child eliminates us having to call families to bring things. Thanks for your help!
LABELLING EVERYTHING
Our Lost & Found already has 28 items (including shoes and eyeglasses) that are not labelled with a student’s first and last name. Please ensure ALL items that come to school are clearly labelled so they get back to their owners. Our school does participate in an ongoing fundraiser through Mabel’s Labels if you are interested in purchasing labels for your children that way. See https://mabelslabels.ca/en_CA/fundraising/support/ for more information.
FOOD SHARING AT NLS
Sharing of food is not permitted at NLS. This includes students sharing snacks or food at recess and lunch, or snacks or treats for occasions such as birthdays. We have a vast range of allergies in our school (which include things such as peanuts, tree nuts such as almonds, wheat, milk, dairy, eggs, legumes, berries and other fruits, items in the mustard family such as broccoli and kale, food dyes, chocolate, honey, etc.) With this, we ask that families DO NOT bring or send any food to be shared with the class.
For birthdays, we provide students with a special pencil to mark the day and acknowledge the occasion over the announcements at the beginning of the week. We truly appreciate your support and cooperation as we strive to prevent accidental allergic reactions. If you have any additional questions about this, please contact Mrs. Brinson (mlbrinson@cbe.ab.ca).
PLEASE COME TO OUR ‘WELCOME TO THE NEW YEAR’ OPEN HOUSE
On the evening of Thursday, September 21 from 5:00 - 7:30, families will have an opportunity to drop in for a few minutes at a time that is convenient for them during our ‘Welcome to the New Year’ Open House.
Although we will have a 2 ½ hour window of time available for families to come in, only 15- to 30-minutes is needed. (There will not be a booking system for this evening and you do not need to sign up for a specific time to come.)
This drop in evening will give you a chance to:
- say hello to Miss White (our Music Teacher), Mr. Newton (our PE teacher) and your child’s homeroom teacher
- have your child share various classroom routines, structures and activities
- pick up your apple orders if you supported our fundraiser
**Please note, this Open House evening is not intended as a time for teachers to sit down to discuss how each child is doing, as school will only been in school for a few weeks and teachers are still getting to know their students.**
If you have not done so already, please return the paper copy of the Parent or Guardian Questionnaire we sent home at the start of the year. This document is a key piece in providing your child’s teacher with a lot of very important information about your child that they will need to build on a successful year.
